I am delighted to know the 10th United Nations Day of Vesak (UNDV) is going to be observed at Bangkok from 21-22 May 2013 sponsored by the Royal Kingdom of Thailand, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University and Supreme Sangha Council of Thailand.
Buddhism in Bangladesh is as old as from the time of the Buddha. The people of Bangladesh are enriched with its rich heritage and civilization. Recent excavation and discovery of Vikrampuri Buddhist Monastery at the birth place of world renowned saint scholar Atisha Dipankar Srijnan bears testimony of the Buddhist heritage in Bangladesh.
Historically, Bangladesh maintains communal harmony. The believers of various religions of the soil have been practicing their religious activities freely and share the festivities with others. The present government patronizes the development of the religious institutions including Buddhism.
I wish the UNDV World Buddhist Congregation a great success.
Joi Bangla, Joi Bangabandhu
May Bangladesh Live Forever.
Sheikh Hasina
Prime Minister of Bangladesh
