Mr. W. M. Dhanapala is a senior lecturer in Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka, He secured his B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology and M. Phil in Criminology from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and M.A from the Hitotsubashi University in Japan. He is a reader of Ph.D. in the same Hitotsubashi University in Japan. He has been working as a university teacher for over 25 years and also as a consultant in development projects for twenty years. He has written and published more than 35 books and articles in both Sinhalese and English. He has studied foreign languages such as Japanese, Russian and English in addition to oriental languages. In the fields of sociology and criminology he has conducted many research studies. He has a special interest in Buddhist studies and research and he has published more than ten articles and books. His participation in International conferences has enabled him to share his research studies with other nations.

Rahul K Kamble is a Buddhist by faith and native of Nagpur, India. He is working as an Assistant Professor in Department of Environmental Science, Sardar Patel College, Chandrapur, Maharashtra, India. He is B.Sc. Environmental Science; MBA Environmental Management from University of Twente, the Netherlands and M.Sc. Environmental Science and pursuing PhD in Environmental Science. He has successfully completed course on Certificate in French Language from Nagpur University and a Diploma in Total Quality Management.

He has cleared five times UGC-NET examination in Environmental Science (a national level examination for conducting eligibility for lectureship) in addition to this a certificate course in Information Technology. He had worked in National Environmental Engineering Research Institute, Nagpur in various capacities for two years. After that he joined as a Scientist in National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources, New Delhi where he worked in Indian Science Abstracts and Medicinal & Aromatic Plants Abstract for two years each. Then he joined as an Assistant Professor in Department of Environmental Science at Sardar Patel College, Chandrapur and has teaching and research experience of more than six years.

He has published more than 50 research papers in international and national reputed research journals. He is a member of various research organizations. He has attended various national and international conferences/workshops and seminars. He was instrumental for organizing a National Conference on “Cleaner Production for Greening of Industries” in 2012 and an international Buddhist conference “Vision 2056” (100 years of embracing Buddhism by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar) in 2014. He has developed a low cost de-fluoridation technique by using basil (Ocimum sanctum) leaves and stem and successfully completed a UGC sponsored research project on groundwater iron and the correlation in women blood iron level. His research interest includes environmental monitoring, pollution mitigation, social issues, correlation of environment and Buddhist philosophies for a sustainable future. Some of the research papers on Buddhism by him includes: Buddhism and Science; Buddhist Environmentalism: A Path to Sustainable Development; Ashoka: The Engaged Ecologist; Buddhism and Human Rights; Environment Conservation Reflections in Pali Literature and so on.

He is also a member of Society for Promoting Buddhist Knowledge which is imparting Buddhist knowledge to the young individuals of the society by conducting Sunday Buddhist School and publishing low cost Buddhist literature.

Dr. Jinwol Y. H. Lee is a Buddhist Monk and Zen Master. He belongs to Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, the major traditional Mahayana Buddhism in Korea, and serves as the President's Special Adivisor for International Affairs. He has been the President of URI Korea Multiple Cooperation Circle and a trustee of the URI Global Council, elected in the Asian Region since 2002. Formerly a professor of Buddhist Studies at the Seoul Graduate School of Buddhism and the Dean of Religious Affairs of Dongguk University in Seoul, Jinwol is now a professor teaching Buddhist meditation and culture at the Department of Seon (Chan/Zen) Studies of Dongguk University, Gyeongju Campus, a thousand old capital city of Silla Dynasty. He is working as a Vice President of WFB, the oldest and largest Buddhist global organization around the world. He was a member of the Presidential Commission on Sustainable Development in South Korea. Having taken modern scholarship in 1984, he graduated from Dongguk, a Buddhist University then from Sogang, a Jesuit University in 1986. In 1990, he earned a masters degree (M.A. in Religious Studies) from the Graduate School of the University of Hawaii at Manoa. In 1998, he obtained a Ph.D from the University of California at Berkeley.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Niharika Labh

Dr. (Mrs.) Niharika Labh, an Assistant Professor (Guest) is engaged in the Department of Buddhist Studies at the University of Delhi, Delhi (India).

Basically from the land of the Buddha, i.e., Bihar province of India, Dr. Niharika got a very friendly atmosphere of religious harmony and peaceful co-existence in her family and surrounding since her very childhood, and somehow it created an in interest in her to know more and more about Buddhism and Buddhist Studies. Further, in the company of her husband Prof. Baidyanath Labh, she got more opportunities to go deeper into Buddhist Studies.
After graduating in Hindi (Hons.), she did two Post Graduates in Hindi (Patna University) and Buddhist Studies (Delhi University) followed by her Ph. D. research again in Buddhist Studies from the University of Jammu, Jammu. Being a female and also feeling concern for women in general and their condition as well as their contribution towards Buddhism in particular, she chose to work on the role of nunnery towards the furtherance of Buddhist faith.

Even after her Ph. D. degree she continued to work on various themes of Buddhist Studies and attended a number of seminars/conferences in India and abroad. She has a good number of papers published in various research journals.

Matthew R.G. Regan is a PhD student specializing in international development at the University of Maryland’s School of Public Policy. Mr. Regan holds a BA in history and an MA in Modern European history, both from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, where he focused on the evolution of European social thought, the history of science, and European encounters with and interpretations of non-European cultures, especially in Asia. His current research interests focuses on democracy, culture, and environmental preservation in Southeast Asia.

Mr. Regan has practiced vipassana meditation in the Theravada tradition since 1999 and has studied Buddhist doctrine and philosophy with numerous senior monks and scholars, including Ven. Dr Peter Daniels is a Senior Lecturer and member of the Environmental Futures Centre at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia. His major expertise lies in the field of ecological economics. Dr Daniels research interests centre upon ethical aspects of economic systems and the scientific analysis of the economy leading to appropriate and effective strategies for achieving a sustainable society.

Peter is internationally recognised for his work exploring the relationship between ethics and values (especially Buddhism) , economic systems, and the environment. He has presented keynote and general presentations at numerous conferences and events including (1) Invited speaker. Sufficiency Economy and Mainstream Economic Theory on the occasion of HM King Bhumibol’s 84th birthday “The Meaning of Sufficiency Economy: Theory and Practice in Society, Economy and Business”, February 2012 in Bangkok, Thailand; (2) 2008 and 2014 Invited speaker. United Nation’s Day of Vesak Conferences, Hanoi, Vietnam; (3) 2007 Buddhism and Sustainability. World Environment Day Forum Talk. June 5, 2007. Griffith University Multifaith Centre. Other current research foci include the environmental “systems” analysis of material and energy flows, input-output tables, life cycle assessment, and ecological footprint analysis. Applications lie in the critical areas of sustainable production and consumption.

Devin C. Bowles is a PhD student under Professor Colin Butler at the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health at the Australian National University. Devin’s doctoral research topic is the socially-mediated health effects of climate change, with a focus on conflict, migration, under-nutrition, and health inequity.

Devin has an ongoing interest in psychological and social barriers to climate change mitigation, and interactions between religion and socio-economic structures. He obtained honours degrees in anthropology and psychology, and a Master of Arts in anthropology.

Since then, he provided advice to the Australian Heritage Council on nominations for inclusion in the National Heritage List and led several research projects at the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. Previous publication topics include religious change, environmental degradation, Aboriginal health, prosopagnosia (face blindness), migration and the intersection of conflict prevention and health care.
