Role of Buddhism in the Adaptation to the Widowhood caused by the Ethnic Conflict in Sri Lanka
Having secured a Bachelor of Arts (Sociology & Anthropology) Degree from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in 1986, Mr. W.M Dhanapala enrolled in the Institute of A.C.Pushkin in Moscow and followed a full time Russian Language course for one year. Thereafter he mastered English language proficiency following a Diploma in English language and a Higher Diploma in English Language . In 1988 he joined the Sri Lanka School of Social Work as a lecturer and worked for nearly two years until he joined the department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in 1990. He obtained a Master of Philosophy Degree in 1995. Mr Dhanapala won a Japanese scholarship (Monbusho) and entered the Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo in 1997 as a social researcher. There he read for a M.A in social sciences and was awarded the said degree in year 2000. The scholarship programme enabled him to follow the PhD programme at the faculty of social sciences in the same university in Tokyo.
Mr. Dhanapala Wijsinghe has worked over two decades as a university teacher and also as a researcher in sociology, Anthropology and Criminology. He has conducted over twenty research studies and written fifteen books with the intention of disseminating his knowledge. In addition he has shown his creative ability in poetry by making some publication. One of them is the "DHAMMA PADA in Sinhala poem"
Mr.Dhanapala worked for four years as the Director of Carrier Guidance Unit at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and also rendered his service to number of degree programmes conducted by different universities and institutes such as the Police Training Collage. He has conducted number of social surveys for government departments in Sri Lanka. He has participated in number of national and International academic conferences and made his contribution as a panelist.
