Asst. Prof. Dipti Mahanta received her PhD in English from Tezpur Central University in 2004. Her doctoral thesis entitled "The Making of the Self: A Feminist Reading of Kamala Das" that was evaluated from the University of California, San Diego received critical appreciation from Indian feminist scholars like Prof. Aparna Dutta, Prof. Rosemary Marangoly and others. She has been a full-time faculty member at the Department of Foreign Language Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Khonkaen Campus since 1998. Also a visiting faculty at Khonkaen University and Mahamakutrajavidyalaya University, Esarn Campus she has taught various courses on English Conversation, Literature and Academic Writing at the graduate, post-graduate and doctoral level. Apart from writing books on English conversation for Buddhist monks, she regularly writes on various aspects of the culture of Northeast Thailand (Isaan). Her contribution to research in Theravada Buddhism includes the monograph "A critical study of the Mahachat Sung-sermon from Isaan" parts of which have been presented at many international conferences including the XVI Congress of the IABS. She takes a deep interest in the teachings of the Thai forest tradition monks and is presently undertaking the research project "Deconstruction deconstructed: A study of LuangphoChah in the light of Derridean philosophy".
