ATamas is Rector of the Budapest Buddhist University. He gratuated in 1991 from the University of Budapest in English and Tibetan and gained his PhD in 1998 in Buddhist Studies. He studied Buddhist theory and practice with a number of Eastern and Western teachers from different traditions. His main focus is on the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. He has taught Tibetan language and Buddhist philosophy at the Department of Central Asian Studies at ELTE Budapest University and the 'Dharma Gate' Buddhist College. He now teaches Buddhist history, philosophy and Tibetan studies at the Budapest Buddhist University, where he also gives courses in meditation. He is also leader of the East-West Research Institute, an organizational branch of the Buddhist University for the advancement of Buddhist studies and the promotion of a constructive East-West dialogue in science and society. He is an assistant secretary of the International Association of Buddhist Universities (IABU). He has published extensively, and translates books from Tibetan into both English and Hungarian.
